NBA Draft ‘07 - 1984 Redux?
I am currently reading the book Tip Off, by Filip Bondy. [review coming soon to CSR]. It's about the 1984 NBA Draft and makes the claim that it changed basketball forever - I can't disagree with that. While reading it, I have been struck with how similar the situation was in 1984 to the situation entering the 2007 NBA Draft. [read more...]
The State of US Soccer - Bob Bradley and the Copa America
It's all happening so quickly! At least that has to be the thought for US Soccer fans recently. After an impressive display at the CONCACAF Gold Cup last week, the US men's soccer team is out, yet again, to keep the win streak alive under the tutelage of new manager Bob Bradley. Next stop: Copa America The tournament, consisting of 10 South American [read more...]
Kobe, Barry, Adam and Tank: The Black Villains Club
On ESPN radio and television simulcast show Mike and Mike in the Morning, baseball guy Buster Olney, sitting in for Mike Golic, called Kobe Bryant, "the biggest baby in sports." Further, he implied that Bryant is a cancer with the rhetorical question: "Is Kobe Bryant a cancer?"Olney's question comes on the heels of word from Bryant's camp (whatever that means) [read more...]
The Next Big Stakes Races
There were 16 horses nominated for Saturday's $400,000 Suburban Handicap at Belmont. Because the defending champion was among them, most avoided the race. Now Invasor, 2006 Horse of the Year, must skip racing entirely. The Argentine-bred came out of a five-furlong workout last Saturday with a fractured sesamoid in his right ankle. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin sadly announced that the son of [read more...]
The Bogut Blackout: How the Truth Fails to be Told
Andrew Bogut spoke out in a Sydney Morning Herald newspaper feature by David Sygall on his perception of the state of America and it black NBA mirror. I included Bogut's words and my opinion of them in a Friday collection of sports briefs. People got - angry. They went off on Bogut. Slammed his words. Attacked him personally. Attacked his game. [read more...]
Wimbledon: A Preview
It's that time of the year again! The tennis world has cleaned clay off their shoes and recovered from the slow and bouncy French Open. Once again Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal finished up another major in a Championship match-up. And once again, Nadal defeated Federer on clay to win his 3rd consecutive French Open. But now the surfaces, and [read more...]
Good Day Sunshine: Adam Jones, Barry Bonds and the Burden of Proof
We have a serious disconnect here in the land of the not-so free and the home of the brave few in the sporting world. This is the arena where judgment is laid down before the judging is done. This is the place where opinion matters far more than truth. The place where strangers swear they know - and those knowing [read more...]
The Randolph Morris Effect
Think about this question carefully…Who is the most influential player to enter the NBA Draft in the past twenty years? Kobe? LeBron? Renaldo Balkman? No, no, no - you have to think less talented than that. I know what you are asking, and my answer is: yes… even less talented than Balkman. Future NBA journeyman and recent New York Knicks newbie Randolph Morris [read more...]
Kobe Bryant: Black Jesus Wears #24
The person becomes the persona until the persona crushes the person. ------------- On the basketball court he is a lyricist like no other. His flows resonate so deeply with his audience that they are left gasping at the end of his show. In between, syncopated beats go well beyond the set 16 bars, sometimes shortened to 12, eight, and then in a [read more...]
What Barry Deserves
Barry Bonds is about to get it. While almost all of the BALCO-related headlines scream of Bud Selig's threat to suspend Jason Giambi and of ex-Bonds attorney Troy Ellerman's plea bargain being rejected, Bonds is on the verge of receiving his just desserts. There is no big article in the San Francisco Chronicle. Or the San Jose Mercury-News. Or the Oakland [read more...]

Website Poll
Poker sites for US players are somewhat hard to come by these days. Aside from the big ones, PokerStars and Full Tilt, mainly smaller, fairly unknown sites are available to Americans. It s a good idea to read a poker room review before you sign up with a site you don t know very much about.
