Panic Attack

I can't speak for how other baseball teams work, because I have only been a part of one fanbase in my life. But when it comes to real Cubs fans, there are two distinct types: the ones who believe 'This is our year' and the ones who ask 'When is my next nervous breakdown gonna happen?' (Of course there are [read more...]

Feeding the Football Fix

My calendar tells me it's mid-July, the dog days of summer. In the sports world, that means baseball's trade deadline is right around the corner, NFL training camps will be popping up any day now, and the Olympics begin in only a few weeks. We just finished watching a historic NBA Finals, a classic Wimbledon final, and a never-ending MLB [read more...]

Favre's Possible Return a Blessing - For the Bears

Four months ago, Brett Favre claimed he was done with football. Done with two-a-day practices, done with the Lambeau Leap, done with throwing bullet screen passes and beautiful deep balls. After 15 years, one Super Bowl title and countless NFL records, Favre left the Green Bay Packers for a whole lot of nothing on his land in Mississippi. Now that has [read more...]

Picking the All-Star Teams: National League

Since the 1996 All-Star game held in Philadelphia, the American League has won ten of the eleven mid-season classics. The only time the National League didn't lose: the 2002 game that ended in a 7-7 tie. That means for twelve consecutive seasons, the best of the NL haven't been able to defeat the best of the AL. So why is that? [read more...]

Picking the All-Star Teams: American League

The fact that the league that wins the Major League Baseball All-Star game gets home-field advantage in the World Series might be the dumbest rule in all of sports. The NBA's big mid-season event doesn't determine who has home court in the Finals, and neither does the NHL's when it comes to the Stanley Cup. (I won't even mention the [read more...]

23 Reasons Derrick Rose Was a Good Pick For the Bulls

1- He's a scorer, averaging 15 points a game in his only season at the University of Memphis. That would have been third on the Bulls last season, but Rose's 48% shooting from the field would have tied him with Luol Deng for the team lead. 2- He's a passer, averaging five assists a game. Like any good player though, D-Rose [read more...]

Tiger Joins Elite Company

I'm far from what you would call a golf guy. I know maybe ten players on the PGA tour, have never played a round in my life and my greatest education on the sport comes from Rick Reilly columns, "Caddyshack" and "Happy Gilmore". My lifetime highlights in the sport all involve mini-golf or video games, and I barley can hit [read more...]

Coaching the Bulls

Last week it was a sure thing, as likely as John Daley super-sizing his Big Mac or Devin Hester cruising right by a tackler. Now it's over, with both sides saying that it just wasn't meant to be. It appears former Bulls coach Doug Collins will not become the next Bulls coach. After a week and a half of speculation, Collins [read more...]

Phil's Quest for 10

When Game 1 of the historic 2008 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics tips off on Thursday night, the answers to many questions will finally come to light. Does Kevin Garnett have the inner-drive to dominate a defender who has one-third of his skills? Can Lamar Odom fill the Finals X-Factor shoes that Robert Horry [read more...]

MLB Report Cards

The start of June means only one thing to nearly every student in the country: School is almost over and summer is about to begin. But before thousands of kids can enjoy the beach, sleeping late and Fourth of July fireworks, there's that important thing called grades. Have a poor report card, and a student's summer can turn from backyard [read more...]
