Lundqvist frustrating Caps, Ovechkin

With six minutes remaining in Saturday’s game, Alex Ovechkin got the puck in the slot following a Rangers’ giveaway.
This, of course, is a goaltender’s worst nightmare. Ovechkin was left alone with the tying goal on his stick. Surely, he would bury the puck in the back of the net with one of his laser beams.
But Henrik Lundqvist got his stick on Ovechkin’s shot, deflecting it into
the corner. Ovechkin looked to the heavens in disbelief.
Lundqvist is nicknamed the King and Saturday he turned in a performance fit for a king, stopping 35 shots in a 1-0 win that gave the Blueshirts a surprising two games to none lead against the Capitals.
King Henrik is frustrating the Capitals and Ovechkin, who has yet to
solve Lundqvist in the series.
The Rangers did a better job on Ovechkin in Game 2 and also stepped up their physical play. He still got off six shots Saturday for a two-game total of 19. He has yet to beat Lundqvist, who clearly is
the big story of this series so far.
Meanwhile, Washington coach Bruce Boudreau has a huge decision to
make for Game Three: Go back to Jose Theodore, who was a shaky
in a 4-3 opening-game loss, or stick with rookie Simeon Varlamov , who
actually played well after allowing a first-period goal to Ryan Callahan.
The Rangers don’t have to worry about making such decisions, though
they can’t let up because this is still a dangerous Washington team and the series is far from over.
