Championship Teams

Drew BreesChampionship Teams find ways to win tough games. Both the Colts and the Saints did just that this past week.

The Colts faced an exceedingly tough match up against the 49′ers, who most experts expected wouldn’t be much of a game. However the 49′ers jumped out front early with a Frank Gore TD run. The Colts stayed behind for most of the game, but finally with a Joseph Addai TD pass to Reggie Wayne, the Colts sealed the deal. Even without Manning having a great game they still found a way to win. This is what makes Super Bowl teams.

The Saints have done the same thing the past couple of weeks. The Dolphins should have beat them, but the Saints were resilient and pulled out a victory. Then this past week against the Falcons, yes sure the Saints played a much better game but Atlanta came back. Recovering a late onside kick the game was up in the air, however the Saints came out victorious. That is because they are a Super Bowl caliber team.

An example of a top tier team that isn’t a championship team is the New York Giants, and I think it all falls on Eli Manning’s shoulders. When they are behind his posture starts to decline and he hangs his head and his team follows. This past week against the Eagles, they had a chance to be in the game, but there was no urgency. It was like they had given up after halftime. Even when they finally got into their hurry up offense it was a quarter and a half to late. If they want to do better it is up to Eli to become resilient like his older brother, and Drew Brees.

Like I said championship teams win when they shouldn’t, and I think it all starts with a quarterback who has ice water in their veins. The season is almost half way over, and it is time for some top rated quarterbacks to start playing like they want to win.
