The Case for a New National Holiday

Let’s face it: We are all looking forward to Super Sunday. It doesn’t matter if you are a Colts fan, a Saints fan, or a supporter of one of the 30 other teams that didn’t make it this far. Heck, it doesn’t even matter if you know what N.F.L. stands for. How many non-football fans will be watching the game [read more...]

Week 16 Preview: Kansas City at Cincinnati

The Basics The 9-5 Bengals host the 3-11 Chiefs in front of a newly announced sellout at Paul Brown Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 EST. What’s at stake For the Bengals, it’s the third consecutive week that they can clinch the AFC North division crown with a victory.  They lost all chance at a first round playoff bye after last Sunday’s loss [read more...]

Waiver Wire Watch – Week 15

Think just because the fantasy playoffs are starting or have already commensed, that your team is set can can’t be improved? Think again.Depth chart changes and injuries can and will impact your roster until the season is over, and brutal match-ups can still be avoided by digging deep on the waiver wire and finding some late-season games. There are always [read more...]

Week 9 Preview: Baltimore at Cincinnati

In the backroom of a shady saloon just on the edge of town, the Ravens await. They sit there hunkered over a card-table with a half-bottle of cheap rum and an old, shaggy dog named Cleveland, curled up and sleeping at their feet. They’ve been there since daybreak and they say they ain’t leavin’ til the Bengals give [read more...]

Jets End 3-Game Losing Streak, Blank Raiders 38-0

As I have said before, the Oakland Raiders are opportunists. By that, I mean that they easily lose at home as they do on the road. Perhaps they were full of themselves when they upset the Philadelphia Eagles last week. Who knows, really? Nonetheless, the Raiders reverted to their normal selves as they accumulated a “whopping” 263 yards of total [read more...]

Ravens Sitting at 3-2 Officially at the Crossroads

As you can imagine I like to get my hands, eyes and ears on as much Ravens information as I can. And with last Sunday’s surprising upset at the hands of the division leading Cincinnati Bengals (Did I just say that?) there was plenty of information to digest. I listened to radio call in shows, though not for long. I heard [read more...]

Thoughts on What the Cowboys Need the Most

It’s only Wednesday and most of the Dallas media are still talking about the Denver game and whether Tony Romo knew it was fourth-down on the last play or not.   Others are concentrating their analysis on whether it’s Romo or Wade Phillips that is the biggest “problem” with the team while others debate the play calling of Jason Garrett. Tomorrow is [read more...]

Bengals Come of Age in a Hurry

It’s never been better to be wrong. Cincinnati is still elated after a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback against the loathsome Steelers on Sunday in a game that truly typified the attitude of Marvin Lewis’ newest breed of Bengal. His teams of the past lacked the emotional wherewithal and intestinal fortitude to scrape themselves off of the canvas and fight a tough [read more...]

Browns Continue Awful Start – Where Do They Go From Here?

The quarterback situation in Cleveland took a decidedly horrendous turn Sunday in the loss to Baltimore. Brady Quinn played his way out of the lineup and Derek Anderson did so poorly that Quinn by default will still probably start Game 4. There are no real positives here. Every defense made for Quinn just doesn’t hold up. [read more...]
