Celts-Bulls classic gets even better. Bulls force Game 7 with 3 OT win.
Wow. Game six of the Bulls-Celtics series is the fourth to go into OT. Not only that, a FIFTH game was decided by Ray Allen with 2.5 or so seconds left with a three-pointer. …and the Celts-Bulls go into DOUBLE OT … For the SECOND time in the series. What a series. Ray Allen, who had 46, had his toes on the [read more...]

Game 22. Yanks win third straight with 3 in 8th, 7-4.
Melky Cabrera got the game-winning single, and Ramiro Pena’s first extra-base hit of his career (double) drove in two insurance runs as the Yanks scored three in the 8th to win 7-4. The Yanks fell behind early as AJ Burnett wasn’t on his “A” game. Burnett gave up a run in the first, but the Yanks tied it in the bottom of [read more...]
Game 22. Home Sweet Home. Will the Stadium play the same? (small)?
The Yanks are back home and going against the Angels. It’ll be interesting to see if the Stadium plays the same as it did a few weeks ago—meaning like a bandbox. A-Rod is back in the news. Steroids in high school? With the Yanks? Tipping pitches? God only knows what is in the Roberts book—and just at the time Alex is about [read more...]
Legend.
This is a picture of Nick Swisher following through on his 6th home run of the year last night against the Tigers (he later followed with his 7th). We all know that Swish is a career .245 hitter, and that this can't last forever. That being said, Nick Swisher has done a great job of distracting Yankee fans from [read more...]
Game 21. Joba, Swisher, Matsui lead Yanks past Tigers 8-6. Yanks have to hold on in 9th.
Youth was served. Last night Hughes, tonight Joba. Hopefully it’s a vision of the future, and a long series of successes for Hughes and Joba. Last night, Hughes, 6 shutout innings, 0 R, 2 hits. Tonight, Joba 7 IP, 1 R, 3 hits, 3 walks and 6 K. Ace-like, just like Hughes job. Very encouraging. Superb. Swisher hit 2 HR, a 3-run shot and a solo one. [read more...]
The minors today
AAA: Great job by Aceves. As for Steven Jackson, nice to see him pitch. He was with the Yanks for what, 7 or 8 games and never got in? He was sent down when Hughes was activated. Tough news for Jason Johnson, who will miss a month with shoulder trouble. HR, 3 RBI for John Rodriguez, HR 2 RBI for [read more...]
Game 21. Yanks @ Tigers. Will youth be served again?

Phil Hughes is not Todd Van Poppel
The Fowl Balls' favorite prospect looked as though he turned the corner last night. After dominating AAA for three starts (3-0, 1.86), Phil Hughes dominated the FIRST PLACE!!1!!!11!! Detroit Tigers last night. Through six innings Hughes surrendered only two hits and no runs, holding out long enough for the Yankees to explode for ten runs in the seventh inning. This window of [read more...]
Game 20. Hughes brilliance, Yanks 10-run 7th inning explosion lead to 11-0 win.
Before I get to the Yanks, some NBA news. If you haven’t been watching the Bulls-Celtics series, you don’t know what you have been missing. I am not just saying that because I am a Celtics fan. Five games. Three decided in OT (one of the three decided in double OT). A fourth game decided on a three-pointer with less than three seconds left. What [read more...]
