Game 50. Yanks @ Cleveland. Youth not served. Yanks fall 5-4.

Well, Cleveland now has just the Indians to worry about as Lebron and the Cavs were eliminated. It’s Disneyland (LA…close enough) vs. Disney World (Orlando) for the NBA title. Work today, long day tomorrow. Brief reports. YANKEES (29-20) Jeter SS Damon LF Teixeira 1B Rodriguez 3B Cano 2B Matsui DH Swisher RF Gardner CF Cervelli C Pitching: RHP Phil Hughes (3-2, 5.16).   Day game after night game. Can somebody please tell Joe Torre to just shut up about the Yankees already?

It's funny. Joe Torre accused Alex Rodriguez of wanting to be the center of attention with the Yankees, but if there is anybody who constantly seeks the spotlight, it's St. Joe himself. And it - shocker - usually involves talking about his old team, instead of his new team. And as long as he's going to keep on yakking about the [read more...]

The minors today.

Teams need pitching, including the Yanks. Some need starters, some relievers. How come no one wants to take a chance on Pedro?  His WBC was decent.  I am not a fan of his antics. But for an 8th inning set up man for Mo, why not see what he has left? He is 37. His last 3 years show 2006: 9-8, 4.48, [read more...]

A bullpen savior? Aceves may be one. Now for others.

As we know full well, the bullpen has been very disappointing this year. Veras, Albaladejo and Edwar have greatly underachieved, Coke has pitched like what he is—a rookie— and injuries have robbed the Yanks of Marte and Bruney. Not having a long man to start the season also didn’t help. Here I come to save the day! But lately, the Yanks have found a [read more...]

Yankees have first place all to themselves - for now, at least

While the Mets had the dramatic walkoff win, and the Yankees had a rather pedestrian victory last night, at least the Bombers gained sole possession of first place for the first time since September 2006. Hooray!I don't really have that much to say about last night's game - I missed part of it, and what I did see wasn't exactly [read more...]

Game 48. Yanks beat Indians 3-1, take over first place.

After two, the Yanks lead 2-0. They surely haven’t been without their chances against last year’s CYA winner, Cliff Lee. In the first, the Yanks loaded the bases with one out but Cano and Posada both struck out. Andy gave up a hit in the first, nothing else. The Yanks struck for two in the second. Swish walked. Gardner (heating up, .284 [read more...]
