Off-day musings.

By: Mike Sommer

Wondering where Steve Phillips has been lately? The old horndog is at it again. You may recall the trouble he had as Mets’ GM.

Harold Reynolds, Phillips. I think Jay Crawford had allegations against him (Cold Pizza). He did. See below. The Dana Jacobsen incident. From Wikipedia:

At a roast for co-workers Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic in January 2008, an allegedly intoxicated Jacobson reportedly cursed the University of Notre Dame and Touchdown Jesus.[1][2] ESPN and Jacobson both released a statement apologizing for any offense given to those offended by the comments[1]. Jacobson was suspended from ESPN for one week. Upon returning from her suspension, she apologized on air for her behavior and comments. No video or transcript of the roast was ever released.

Around the Horn’s Woody Paige (with the Crawford reference):

Sexual harassment allegations

On June 28, 2007, it was reported that a former makeup artist for Cold Pizza was suing ESPN, alleging incidents of sexual harassment against host Jay Crawford, and Paige. Both Crawford and Paige have denied these allegations.[5]

In August 2008 the case was dismissed.[6]

Then an ESPN’r who wasn’t the victimizer but the victim: Erin Andrews. Not to mention a drunk Joe Namath hitting on Suzy Kolber.

The S in ESPN must stand for sex. The P for …. and the N for Nookie.

You wonder…what the hell is going on there?

Of course with Phillips regular anti-Yankee stance, we should be relieved that we don’t have to listen to the horndog.

I don’t get it. Some people still feel the need to denigrate Derek Jeter’s accomplishments. Why? Jealousy? 2747 hits. A .317 lifetime batting average. 10x all star. WS MVP. All-Star MVP. Plays the game the right way. 10 for 31 in this postseason with 3 HR. Yet I read from some that he is a NY or media creation. Are you kidding me? You just can’t please some people. Unreal.

Don Mattingly….Manager of the Indians? Donnie Baseball confirmed that he has spoken to Cleveland about their managerial opening. He’s also been approached by the Nationals.

Phils-Dodgers Game 5 tonight. The Phils could become the first team since the 1995-1996 Braves to repeat as NL Champs. There is a good article that says that with their young core, the Phils could very well do what the Braves did from 1991 to 2005 or the Yankees from 1995 to 2007.

Sommer Frieze is a blog dedicated (mainly) to the Yankees. I'll touch on other things as well and the blog (as much as possible) will not only have Yankees news but also follow the Yanks' farm teams. Come visit at Sommer Frieze.
