Details Surfacing in Gatti Murder Case

Bizarre details are starting to appear in the investigation into the murder of boxing great Arturo Gatti. According to her attorney, Amanda Rodrigues couldn’t have killed her husband because she is “too fragile, young, and skinny.”
Are you kidding me? I think this beats “the dog ate my homework” or “I didn’t know that was a steroid” as the lamest excuse I’ve ever heard.
Let’s review the details. Police found not only a bloody purse strap, which has been identified as belonging to his wife, but that a head injury also contributed to Gatti’s murder. Ok, so if it was just the purse strap that had been used to strangle him, I could understand. After all, he was a professional boxing champion and could easily get out of a situation like that. But club the man upside the head with a blunt object hard enough and you’ll knock him unconscious, at which point he can’t struggle.
Don’t forget the fact that this happened in their hotel room. While she was there. And the body wasn’t discovered until more than 10 hours later. Seriously, you still want to try and run with the helpless young wife alibi?
To make matters worse, Rodrigues is accusing Gatti of claiming his own life while she slept. Really? The man gave himself a head injury and strangled himself? Rodrigues is starting to sound like a 10 year old boy trying to get out of trouble for hitting a home run through his neighbor’s window. If Gatti was suicidal, don’t you think he would have chosen a simpler way out than brutally strangling himself with his wife’s purse strap of all things? This also contradicts her original statement that Gatti had returned to the room alone and was followed and murdered by a third party. So you walked in, didn’t notice he was laying strangled somewhere, and went to bed? Of course…that’s a much more likely story.
To further stack the deck, Gatti’s mother and sister both have come forward and spoken out about the couple’s stormy relationship, insisting Gatti wanted out but chose to stay with her because of their year-old son. His sister Anna-Maria has been quoted as saying, “She always said ‘I’m gonna kill you, I’m gonna kill you.’”
It should be an open-and-shut case. Rodrigues sounds like the only possible suspect at the moment, and she sounds guiltier than OJ Simpson. I hope to see the murderer brought to justice, and my thoughts and prayers are with Gatti’s family.
