Game 73. Subway Series resumes at Citi Field.

By: Mike Sommer

Before we get to the lineups, a note:

The X-man was removed from that AAA game last night after feeling pain in the elbow. It doesn’t look good for Nady.

YANKEES (40-32, 2nd, 4 GB but just 1 up on Toronto, 2 on Tampa Bay)

OPS+ 114; ERA+ 96; Gap narrowing.

1 game better than Pythagorean record.

Lineup:

Jeter, SS .308*-9-30-17*/18*-117 (35 today. Feel old? Yup, leads team in SB, and only caught once)
Damon, LF .293-14-45-7/7-134
Teixeira, 1B .280-20*-57*-0/0-150 (stuck on 20 for a while)
Rodriguez, 3B .223-10-34-2/2-121
Cano, 2B .301-12-42-4/6-113
Cabrera, RF .286-7-28-4/6-107
Gardner, CF .281-2-11-16/18*-97
Cervelli, C .290-1-7-0/1-79 (18 for 62)
Sabathia, LHP career 23 for 88. .261-3-13, OPS+ 73. (Be nice to see him get a hold of one)

Pitching: LHP CC Sabathia (6-4, 3.71). 119 ERA+

In the big Citi, Melky gets the call for RF.

Yanks have stolen 56 bases. Caught just 9 times.

A bit surprised to see Cervelli in there, because both Swisher and Posada are out but there are two PH on the bench (Posada and Swisher) with power, and another (Pena) without. Then you have a lefty (Matsui) and righty (Ransom).

Recap later.

Sommer Frieze is a blog dedicated (mainly) to the Yankees. I'll touch on other things as well and the blog (as much as possible) will not only have Yankees news but also follow the Yanks' farm teams. Come visit at Sommer Frieze.
