Theriot Homers Again…Lilly Drives in Two..Cubs WIN!
I'll leave it to the Elias Sports Bureau to do the research, but my money is on Ryan Theriot not hitting home runs in back to back games since his 12 year old little league season. Add to it a triple today, and Theriot is slugging 1.100 in the last two games. They are going to have to get a bigger [read more...]
Cubs Struggle Through Week 3
This was far and away the worst week of this first month of the MLB season for the Chicago Cubs. They managed their lowest total run production, 23 runs, even though they played one more game than they did last week. With the majority of the runs coming in two games, it made things even worse as they dropped four [read more...]
Cubs Play the Wind to Beat Reds
The Cubs fought through the strong wind blowing in from left field to beat the Reds 7-2. Actually, they didn't fight through it as much as they did use right field. Imagine last year's lineup of all right handers trying to do that. Micah Hoffpauir, left handed hitter, got things started with his first home run of the year in [read more...]
Cubs Bullpen Allows Cardinals Victory
When the pitching rotation was announced a few weeks ago, I was a bit shocked that we would throw our #5 in our first game against the Cardinals. I realize we have to get the right guys rest, etc. but this is the Cardinals. Fast forward to the game, and it didn't work out in our favor. Marshall gave up [read more...]
Cubs Drop Game Following Shutout
The Cubs had a bad habit in 2008 of losing every game following a shut out of their opponent. The trend continues in 2009. Following Ted Lilly's tremendous performance Monday, the Cubs lost 2-5 to the Rockies. Rich Harden only went three innings and gave up four earned runs. What was amazing to me was that he struck out eight. [read more...]
A Lot Can Change In A Year
Last year Chicago opened up at home in Wrigley Field where it was cold and rainy. This year, they open up on the road at Houston, where they closed the roof after the flyover, apparently because there was a chance of lightning and Lance Berkman was nervous. Kosuke started in center instead of right field, where Milton Bradley made his Cub debut. [read more...]
Hoffpauir and Hill Make Opening Day Roster
Lou Piniella made his decisions today on a final roster, at least for position players. It wasn't good news for Paul Bako who had been battling Koyie Hill for the position of backup catcher. I was personally rooting for Hill the whole time, not just because he shares the same last name. Bako was a Cub before and I don't [read more...]
