Theriot Gets First Career Grand Slam To Lead Cubs

In the sixth inning of a game where the Cubs trailed 5-2 to the Marlins, Ryan Theriot came to bat with the bases loaded.  As I was watching the game, I was hoping that Alfonso Soriano would hit the three run home run to tie it, knowing that Theriot was on deck.  I'm a huge Theriot fan, and was confident [read more...]

And The Last Shall Be First….Zambrano Leads Way For Cubs

Big Z, last in the alphabet, ninth in the order, first in the heart of Cubs fans.  He lead the way in Arizona, to keep the Cubs from dropping below .500, at the plate as well as on the mound.  He was a triple short of the cycle at the plate and battled through seven innings to earn the win. He was [read more...]

Piniella Juggles Cubs Lineup

Heading into their second road trip of the season the Cubs needed a spark.  Having only scored one run in their previous twenty innings, they headed into arch rival St. Louis having lost two in a row.  Lou Piniella decided it was time to do something different.  His lineup card for this game: Ryan Theriot, SS                 Kosuke Fukudome, RF                 Alfonso Soriano, LF                 Aramis Ramirez, 3B                                   Derrek [read more...]

Can Cubs Cajun Connection Carry Chicago to Championship

A couple years ago I made the mistake of saying I would take Ryan Theriot over Alex Rodriguez as my shortstop.  I have a thing for hard nosed little guys that play hard.  I was one in college, admittedly with much less talent than Theriot.  I was harassed to no end, because at the time Theriot was average at best.  [read more...]

Cubs Walk To Victory Over Brewers

It wasn't pretty, and it had more to do with the poor Milwaukee pitching than it did Cubs hitting.  Either way, the Cubs will take the victory and a 4-2 road trip to start the season. After struggling through games watching his bullpen give out free passes, Lou Piniella's club was on the receiving end of ten walks.  Four consecutive walks scored [read more...]

Cubs Blow Harden’s Lead

Rich Harden...second pitcher picked on my fantasy team....scored 14 points today...but didn't get the win.  No, the Cubs bullpen blew it.  My friend Sean called it as soon as Harden was pulled and Aaron Heilman walked the first Brewer.  I tried to refute his argument, and for a couple innings it seemed to work.  Then in the ninth inning, Kevin [read more...]

Cubs Win Season Opening Series In A Big Way

When the first seven Cubs reached base safely last night, I kind of thought this would be an easy win.  I had forgotten about Ted Lilly's propensity to give up the home run.  Boy did he help me remember by allowing four home runs to the Astros. In the end, the Cub offense carried the night in an 11-6 win that gave [read more...]

A Lot Can Change In A Year

Last year Chicago opened up at home in Wrigley Field  where it was cold and rainy.  This year, they open up on the road at Houston, where they closed the roof after the flyover, apparently because there was a chance of lightning and Lance Berkman was nervous. Kosuke started in center instead of right field, where Milton Bradley made his Cub debut.  [read more...]
