Theriot Homers Again…Lilly Drives in Two..Cubs WIN!

I'll leave it to the Elias Sports Bureau to do the research, but my money is on Ryan Theriot not hitting home runs in back to back games since his 12 year old little league season.  Add to it a triple today, and Theriot is slugging 1.100 in the last two games.  They are going to have to get a bigger [read more...]

Cubs Fail To Score For First Time in 2009, Fall to Reds

The Chicago Cubs were blanked by Johnny Cueto and the Reds bullpen.  For the first time this year, they failed to touch home plate even once in the game.  The team just looked flat or sluggish all night.  Defense was a problem too as Ted Lilly committed an error and had another misplay that scored as a hit.  Milton Bradley seemed [read more...]

Chicago Cubs Week Two Is High On Drama

The Cubs ended week two the same way they will begin week three, with a day off.  The Sunday night game was postponed due to weather and will be made up on July 12th.  A scheduled off day Monday means a little extra rest early in the season.  They can probably use it this week after an exciting week and [read more...]

Lilly Comes Oh So Close In Cubs Home Opener

After Sunday's game against Milwaukee, part of Brian Corbin's recap included the following quote regarding Soriano.  "Here’s the rub against Soriano: when he’s Hot he’s HOT…and when he’s Not he’s Not."  Well the same could be said for Ted Lilly.  He's good or he's bad.  In his first outing he earned a win while giving up four home runs.  Today [read more...]

Cubs Win Season Opening Series In A Big Way

When the first seven Cubs reached base safely last night, I kind of thought this would be an easy win.  I had forgotten about Ted Lilly's propensity to give up the home run.  Boy did he help me remember by allowing four home runs to the Astros. In the end, the Cub offense carried the night in an 11-6 win that gave [read more...]

World Baseball Classic Wednesday Wrap Up

Ted Lilly and Geovony Soto wrapped up first round play in the WBC Wednesday.  Lilly threw three innings in a losing effort for the USA.  He only gave up one run, a long ball by former Cub Henry Blanco. Soto had just one base hit, but it was a two out bases loaded single in the sixth.  He is hitting .375 [read more...]

Piniella Projects Pitching Plan

Lou Piniella has indicated he will pick his Opening Day starter by the end of the week.  He isn't giving any hints, but if it isn't Zambrano for the fifth straight year I'll fall out of my chair.  He'll be the first Cub since Rick Sutcliffe to start five straight Opening Day games.  Any long suffering Cub fan identifies Sutcliffe [read more...]

Cubs WBC Saturday Round Up

All four of the Cubs WBC teams were in action today.  Three of the four saw action themselves.  After four walks in his first game, Kosuke Fukudome managed a hit today in Japan's rout of Korea.  His team becomes the first to move on to the next round.  Ted Lilly didn't pitch, but USA won a close game against Canada. Geovony Soto [read more...]

Kosuke Walks Around the World Baseball Classic

The World Baseball Classic got underway today and the Cubs had a participant.  Kosuke Fukudome and Japan defeated China 4-0.  Kosuke scored one run while drawing four walks and not registering an official at bat.  I know he was credited with teaching the rest of the Cubs patience last year, but that is an insane stat. Saturday will be the bigger [read more...]
